Greetings in Jesus and Mary.... Today is a controversial day in the Modern Carmelite Communities. If fact, his feast day is taken from many of their calendars because they choose to ignore Tradition and claim it is just a legend. Many modernist Carmelite authorities (some passed away now) have believed that the promotion of the small Brown Scapular "was an abuse". They began to view it as only a habit meant for the religious and friars of the Order. They began to say that it was promoted with the intentions of viewing it as a "good luck charm". In order to stop this from happening.....they just stopped promoting it! Do you see it being promoted? (Link below on a book that gives details to the history of the Brown Scapular and the scandals it has encountered by its suppression. The book title is "The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Authenticity and Definite Proof" by Rosalia Vitale Kehrig...they are hard to find now but I have a link for a download below) An encouraging book to search for but is not in print anymore is "Take This Scapular". It was put together by the O Carm Fathers in 1947 in order to help the laity celebrate the 1951, 700 year anniversary of the Brown Scapular, and help them promote enrollment in the Brown Scapular! WOW! Did we do that 50 years later at a time when heresies were running rampant....certainly not! On 13th October 1917, in her final apparition to the little shepherds of Fatima, the Blessed Virgin Mary came attired as Our Lady of Mount Carmel holding up the Brown Scapular. As Sister Lucia reminds us: “Our Lady held the Scapular in her hands because She wants us all to wear it”. And “to wear” the Scapular is the outward sign of a sincere inner desire to avoid all occasions of offending Our Blessed Lord by our sins. This is why the Brown Scapular is closely linked to Our Lady’s warnings and appeal to us at Fatima. By wearing it, we are showing our consecration to Her Immaculate Heart and asking Her for Her protection during these trying times. Do we need protection in these trying times? It is also a way to remind ourselves that we daily belong to Her and it is a means of constant prayer to Her for Her guidance and protection from the evil snares set daily all around us. Please help promote enrollment in the Brown Scapular. One need only be enrolled once by a priest and they are enrolled for life. The first Scapular needs to be blessed for this enrollment and then when it gets worn....it is to be burned or buried (since it is a sacramental). The subsequent scapulars do not need to be blessed but can be if you wish. Below are links to help you with more info on the Brown Scapular. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us! St. Simon Stock, pray for us!
