What Are the Three Secrets of Fatima (Part 2 of 3)

Tomorrow is the anniversary of the Third Apparition of Fatima...July 13th. It is the day that Our Lady gave the three shepherd children the 3 Secret of Fatima. Yesterday we covered the first two and today we are covering the Third Secret. Of course, the Third Secret has never been revealed. Sad to say, this message has been suppressed as soon as Rome received it from Lucia's superiors. There is so much to unpack for this that I have to spend three articles on this with two pertaining specifically to the Third Secret. We are at an advantage today with history to look at since the visit of Our Blessed Mother to Fatima Portugal in 1917. If we could write a novel about what could have been if Church authorities and holy laymen did what our dear Blessed Mother came to ask for......WHAT A WORLD WE WOULD BE LIVING IN RIGHT NOW!!!!!!  The true Church of Jesus Christ, the One, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church has great influence over the world and rightly so. All graces flow from Heaven to Earth thru her. If the Church is sick, the world is sick. If the Church is vibrant with holiness and grace, the world is vibrant with life and happiness. This is the reason for the attack by the devil upon the Roman Catholic Church. Remember that Pope Leo XIII had a vision of the Devil with Our Lord..... God gave the devil 100 years to TRY to destroy her. This is quite the mystery. Life is a mystery. We are to remain faithful, no matter what we are faced with in this battle for souls.

Well, back to the messages. Regarding the first two secrets, Our Lady was proven right about another war erupting after WWI and by 1943 Josef Stalin was at work at exporting his ideas of communism to the rest of the world. In June of that same year of 1943, Sr. Lucia at the age of 36 came down with pleurisy and her bishop had asked her to write down the 3rd Secret in case she should die before it is revealed. She was reluctant and on Jan 4, 1944 Our Lady appeared to her and confirmed that it is the express desire of Our Lord that she share the secret with Bishop da Silva. She turned over a one page document in a sealed envelope in her own handwriting along with the notebook that it came from to her Bishop. Sr. Lucia asked him to promise that it would definitely be opened and read to the world either at her death or in 1960, whichever would come first. As we all know.... it was not revealed in 1960...more on this later.

Cardinal Ottaviani, as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1967 stated that he had read the Third Secret and that it was written on a single sheet of paper. Cardinal Ottaviani had the privilege to ask Sr. Lucia in 1955 why it was not to be opened before 1960. She told him, "because then it will seem clearer and because the Blessed Virgin wishes it so."

​Arriving at the Vatican on April 16, 1957 from the Bishop in Portugal, the Secret was undoubtedly placed by Pope Pius XII in his personal desk, inside a small wooden box bearing the inscription Secretum Sancti Offici (Secret of the Holy Office).

Later that year in December, 1957, Father Fuentes interviewed Sr. Lucia and it was published in 1958 with an imprimatur of his Archbishop Sanchez of Vera Cruz, Mexico...Sr.  Lucia told Father...

"Father, the Most Holy Virgin is very sad because no one has paid any attention to Her message, neither the good nor the bad. The good continue on their way but without going any importance to Her message. The bad, not seeing the punishment of God falling upon them, continue their life of sin without even caring about the message. But believe me, Father, God will chastise the world and this will be in a terrible manner. the punishment from Heaven is imminent."

Third Part of the Secret: An Angel with a Flaming Sword
The Third Part as written down by Sister Lucia on January 3, 1944: 
“I write in obedience to you, my God, who command me to do so through His Excellency the Bishop of Leiria and through your Most Holy Mother and mine. After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendor that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’  And we saw in an immense light that is God, something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it, a Bishop dressed in White. We had the impression that it was the Holy Father. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.
